Jewelry Care

Sterling Silver

•Wear your silver jewelry to help prevent tarnish

• To reduce tarnish and keep your pieces tarnish free for months at a time, it is recommended that you keep your sterling silver jewelry in an air-tight protective bag made of tarnish proof cloth or you can use a plastic zip lock bag made of polyethylene.

•  For light cleanings:  To remove light dirt, fingerprints or makeup just use a small amount of mild liquid detergent to a 1/2 cup of warm water and rinse thoroughly with clean fresh water.  (Remember, be careful because too harsh of a cleanser could damage the polish on the stones.)  Dry it completely before storing it in an air tight zip lock bag.

•  Quick clean ups of  sterling silver jewelry with little effort use the Sunshine Polishing Cloth.  Then just polish it up with a soft cotton cloth, an old cotton t-shirt works well. Do not use the polishing cloth on your gemstones!

• Try the following homemade remedy for silver pieces without gemstones. Line the bottom of a glass or stoneware bowl with a piece of aluminum foil. Place the tarnished silver on the aluminum foil. Add 2 Tbsp baking soda and 2 cups warm water. The solution should be sufficient to cover the items. Soak for a few minutes. Pour out the items into a colander or strainer. Rinse, dry thoroughly and shine with a polishing cloth

• Please.... never dip any silver jewelry in 'dip' solutions or commercial cleaning solutions even though it may say that it is for silver jewelry. Dip cleaners will work the first few times, but after that the silver jewelry may turn in color and will never look the same. And the gemstones in your silver jewelry may be damaged from the dip solution.

• It is not recommended to clean your jewelry with toothpaste and a toothbrush as this will scratch the silver.
